Complete production process of feed pellets
Animal feed primarily uses raw materials such as corn and wheat bran, with additional nutrients incorporated during pelletization to produce finished feed that meets the needs of different animals at various life stages. The entire processing involves five stages: receiving and cleaning raw grains, grinding, batching and mixing, pelletizing and cooling, and screening and packaging.

Raw Grain Acceptance and Cleaning
01
The raw grain acceptance and cleaning stage primarily involves screening the raw material to remove impurities such as stones, metal objects, and dust, thereby refining the raw material.
Grinding
02
Controlling raw material particle size significantly impacts pellet formation rate and hardness. Therefore, grinding primarily involves crushing the raw material into a powder with a particle size of 1-3mm.
Ingredient Mixing
03
The purpose of mixing is to incorporate elements containing different nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, ensuring uniform distribution and consistent nutritional content.
Pelletizing and Cooling
04
Pre-processed raw materials enter the conditioner via a variable-frequency feeder. High-temperature steam is mixed in to gelatinize, sterilize, and cook the material. The mixture then proceeds to the pelletizing chamber for pellet formation. Finished pellets must pass through a cooler before screening and packaging.
Screening and Packaging
05
Screening primarily filters out non-conforming fragments and excess powder, ensuring higher-quality pellets in the final packaged product.
Frequently Asked Questions
When purchasing large machinery like animal feed pellet machines, encountering various issues is inevitable. The answers to the following related questions may help resolve some of your concerns.
1. How significant is the difference in finished product between 2 mm and 3 mm ring die apertures?
+
Under identical formulations and conditioning, the 2 mm die produces 18–22% less output than the 3 mm die but yields 8–10% higher hardness. The 2 mm ring die is optimal for chick feed or fish feed, while the 3 mm die offers the most economical solution for medium-to-large poultry and swine.
2. What is the actual throughput of RICHI’s 5 t/h production line?
+
Using a 75 kW SZLH350 feed pellet machine, output reaches 5.2 t/h with a 17% moisture chicken feed formula. For raw material formulas containing 30% grass meal, output is 4.3 t/h.
3. My raw material has 16% moisture. Does it need drying?
+
The optimal moisture for pelletizing is 15%-16%. Direct production is feasible.
4. If I change the formula later, do I need to replace the die ring compression ratio?
+
For high-starch formulas, the feed pellet machine’s die ring compression ratio is 1:8–1:10; for high-fiber or high-fat formulas, it is 1:12–1:14. Otherwise, pellets will be loose. We recommend stocking two die rings with different compression ratios. Die replacement takes only 10 minutes.
5. What is the price difference between a 400 V/50 Hz pellet machine and a 480 V/60 Hz pellet machine?
+
For the same 37 kW model, the 60 Hz motor adds an 8% surcharge, and the electrical control cabinet adds a 5% surcharge.
6. What is your list of wear parts and their annual consumption?
+
Taking the SZLH350 feed pellet machine as an example: 2 roll casings/year, 1-1.5 ring dies/year, 4 cutting blades/year, 6 safety pins/year. Total annual wear part costs account for approximately 3%-4% of the equipment price.
7. What is the installation timeline for the entire line?
+
1-2 t/h production lines require 15 days, 5 t/h lines require 25 days, and 10 t/h lines require 45 days. This includes mechanical, electrical, steam, and commissioning work, but excludes civil construction.
8. How is tempering temperature maintained without steam adjustment expertise?
+
RICHI’s standard automatic steam valve assembly for feed pellet machines features PID temperature control at 80-85°C with ±2°C tolerance. On-site installation requires only 0.4 MPa dry steam supply; the system automatically adapts for temperature regulation, enabling operation by inexperienced personnel.
9. What stacking capacity do mechanical export crates have?
+
Plywood crates withstand 5 tons of pressure and can be stacked 2 high in containers. For breakbulk shipping, adding 100mm timber blocks at the base allows 3-high stacking without deformation.
10. What is the after-sales response time?
+
RICHI machinery‘s domestic service for feed pellet machines guarantees on-site arrival within 24 hours. Overseas agents commit to shipping spare parts within 48 hours. Remote VPN diagnostics connect within 2 hours. For major failures, engineers depart within 72 hours.
